What is a quantity surveyor?

A quantity surveyor (or QS) is a building economist that specialises in providing independent advice on the cost of construction. Whether it is residential, commercial, aviation or even mining sector. Knowing the cost of materials and labour in construction, allows the Australian Tax Office to recognise quantity surveyors as suitably qualified personnel to assess for depreciation in residential properties as part of the ATO’s taxation ruling TR97/25 Paragraph 28.
